Police Chief Tim Vasquez is a life long resident of San Angelo whose father served the SAPD before him.

Vasquez began his career with San Angelo Police Department at 19 years of age as a dispatcher, the only position he was then old enough to hold. As soon as he was eligible he became an officer and advanced through the ranks. During his tenure with the department he has served in the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Community Services Division, and in the K9 unit as a handler and the unit supervisor. Prior to becoming Chief he was elected President of the local Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) chapter SACOP, and was named CLEAT's officer of the year in 2003. Chief Vasquez was elected Chief of Police in June of 2004.

Vasquez received a Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership, graduating Magna Cum Laude from Mountain State University. Chief Vasquez holds a Master Peace Officers license and has over 2500 Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) hours. Chief Vasquez completed the New Chief Development Program at Law Enforcement Management Institute of Texas (LEMIT) in 2004. Chief Vasquez has also completed Texas Police Chief Leadership Series programs.

Vasquez currently serves as Region 6 Director for the Texas Police Chiefs Association and represents the TPCA on the Texas Governor's Homeland Security Council. Chief Vasquez was awarded the "Outside The Box" award by the TPCA in 2006 for the implementation of the "See! Its Me" program, a program designed to fight Forgeries and Identity Theft. This SAPD was awarded the "Innovation Award" in 2006 by the San Angelo Chamber Commerce. Chief Vasquez was a guest speaker on the program at the International Problem Oriented Policing Conference held in Madison, Wisconsin in 2006.

Chief Vasquez serves on several community boards. The most noticeable was the position of Campaign Chair for the United Way Campaign in 2007 where he chaired a campaign that raised over 2 million dollars to be used in 14 surrounding counties and 19 different agencies. Chief Vasquez will serve as the Board Chair in 2008. Vasquez also serves on the Children's Advocacy Center Advisory Board, Chamber of Commerce Board, Shannon Hospital's Health and Wellness Advisory Board, Big Brothers Big Sisters Advisory Board, and Shannon's Right Choices for Youth Board. He is a member of the Tree of Life Church and Emmaus Community.

Vasquez is married to wife Charity and has two daughters, Mia and Maddie.
